MultiWorld supports students in Rwanda from our Kigali office, with the same counsellors and university partners as our Nairobi head office. This guide covers which results universities accept, where you apply for your visa in Kigali and how to get started.

Quick answer

  • With a Rwandan A-Level certificate: many universities consider it for direct entry with strong results; otherwise a foundation year or diploma pathway is the usual route.

  • English: most universities ask for IELTS, PTE, TOEFL or Duolingo. Some accept proof that your schooling was taught in English; always confirm with the university.

  • Visas: Canadian study permit biometrics are taken at the Canada Visa Application Centre in Kigali. UK Student visa biometrics are taken at the UK visa application centre in Kigali. US student visa interviews are at the U.S. Embassy in Kigali.

  • Our Kigali office: call +250 796 482 606 for directions and an appointment.

Which results do universities accept?

A-Level certificate: universities in the UK, Canada, Europe, Australia and the USA consider Rwandan A-Level results. Competitive courses ask for high grades in relevant subjects, for example maths and physics for engineering.

O-Level or weaker A-Level results: a foundation programme, pathway college or Canadian college diploma is usually the best route into a degree.

Degrees: graduates with a recognised bachelor's degree can apply for master's programmes. Requirements depend on your grades and the university.

Where Rwandan students study

  • Canada and France-linked programmes: bilingual students have extra options in Canada and Europe, including English-taught programmes at DSTI School of Engineering in France.

  • UK: one-year master's degrees and three-year bachelor's degrees. See study in the UK.

  • USA, Australia, Malaysia, Dubai and Cyprus: options for every budget. See all study destinations.
