Study Abroad With a Kenyan Diploma: Credit, Top-Ups and Degrees
Updated: 2 days ago
Short answer: Yes. A Kenyan diploma (for example a KNEC or TVET diploma) can earn credit towards a bachelor's degree abroad, sometimes entry to the second or final year, depending on the subject, grades and course content. Universities assess your transcripts and course outlines. Some Canadian colleges also accept diploma holders for one-year postgraduate certificates.

Routes for diploma holders
Destination | Possible route | Guide |
|---|---|---|
UK | Entry to year two or a final-year top-up for related subjects | |
Australia | Credit towards a bachelor's, sometimes a full year | |
Canada | Advanced standing into degrees; some postgraduate certificates | |
USA | Transfer credit assessed course by course | |
Malaysia, Cyprus | Advanced entry to related bachelor's degrees |
What documents are assessed?
Your diploma certificate, full transcripts, course outlines or syllabus, your KCSE certificate and an English test or proof of English. Course outlines decide how much credit you get, so request them from your college early.
How much credit will I get?
It depends on how closely your diploma matches the degree. A business diploma towards a business degree earns more credit than towards an unrelated field. We request a credit assessment from universities before you commit.
